Yvonne Hurt

Tupelo--Yvonne Stanley Hurt, 94, died May 25, 2011, at The Homeplace in Saltillo after a lengthy illness. A native of Saltillo, she lived in Tupelo 60 years. She served as a volunteer at North Mississippi Medical Center more than 25 years, and received a Mississippi Distinguished Service Award in 1983 for her work in the NMMC emergency room. She taught two generations of four and five-year-olds in Sunday School at First Baptist Church in Tupelo, served on three pastor search committees and sang alto in the church choir. She was a member of the Womens Missionary Union at First Baptist Church, Christian Womens Club, Literary Club and Womens Club. She and several friends formed a Thursday lunch bunch that frequented Tupelo restaurants for many years.

Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues. The Rev. Dave Jensen, minister to singles at First Baptist Church, will officiate, along with Dr. Gary Nichols and Rod Johnson. Burial will be at Glenwood Cemetery.

She is survived by her children, Carolyn Nichols (Gary), Milton, Fla., Molly Johnson (Rod), Denver, Colo., and Stanley Hurt (Connie), Tupelo; four grandchildren, Molly Nichols, Beth Nichols McCaddy (Kevin), Hannah Johnson and Nathan Johnson; a great grandson, Parker McCaddy; and numerous nieces and nephews; and her sitters, Cheryl Adams and Janie Jackson.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Paul, in 2000; an infant son in 1949; her parents, J.H. and Mattie Gardner Stanley, of Saltillo; and 12 brothers and sisters. She also was preceded in death by her first husband, Carl Estes of Shannon.

Pallbearers will be Wayne Stanley, Lawrence Stanley, Stanley Young, Tommy Ricker; Nathan Johnson and Kevin McCaddy. The kind staffs of The Homeplace and Sanctuary Hospice will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. prior to the funeral.
