Winnie Lou Birmingham

May 22, 1921 — March 31, 2009

Nettleton - Winnie Lou Birmingham, 87, died Tuesday, March 31, 2009, at The North Mississippi Medical Center after an extended illness. A Nettleton native and lifelong resident, she was born May 22, 1921, to John and Myrtle Virginia Pettigrew Booth. She worked for Reed Manufacturing for over 20 years. She also, along with her husband, Lynuel Brimingham, ran the family farm. She enjoyed quilting and flower gardening, especially her roses. She will be remembered as a loving and helpful individual, always ready to take care of someone in need. She was a member of Limestone Baptist Church where she was active in the Senior Adults Group and supporter of the church music ministry.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Rev. Gary Carroll officiating. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Park.

Survivors include one daughter, Mitzi Birmingham Hagan of Aiken, S.C.; one son, Burt Birmingham and wife, Judy, of Van Vleet; three sisters, Liz Gandy of Michigan, Dorothy Bare of Michigan, Betty Dillard and husband, Dean, of Amory; two brothers, Harold Riley and wife, Maytee, of Wren and Johnny Riley of Louisanna; five grandchildren, Amy Michelle Hurley and husband, David, of Nettleton, Courtney Elizabeth Hagan of Columbia, S.C., James Lowell Hagan of Cheungdu, China, Kyle Austin Birmingham Hagan of Charleston, S.C. and Lucas Burton Birmingham of Van Vleet; one great-granddaughter, Ally Michelle Hurley of Nettleton.

She was preceded in death by her husband of over 55 years, Lynuel Burt Birmingham; two sisters, Frances Booth and Lorene Tucker; and one brother, George (Bud) Riley.

Pallbearers will be Randle West, Dulane West, Mike West, Carroll Pettigrew, Jeffery Pettigrew, Bobby Nicholson, and Corey Nicholson.

Visitation will be 4 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
