Wilma Comer Clayton
Tupelo - Wilma Comer Clayton, 82, died Friday, April 28, 2006, at the North Mississippi Medical Center after a lengthy illness. She was born in Itawamba County to Reuben Alexander Comer and Emmie Loden Comer. She was a retired school teacher, having taught at Dorsey and Lawhon Jr. High for 36 1/2 years. She loved all her children. She was a member of East Heights Baptist Church. She enjoyed gardening and cooking for her family and friends. She was known for her caramel cakes. She loved her family and grandchildren. She was the widow of Paul R. Clayton, to whom she was married for 52 years.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with the Rev. Terry Ledbetter officiating. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Park.
Survivors include one daughter, Myra Clayton Sharp of Tupelo; one son, Mark Clayton and Renee of Tupelo; two sisters, Eppie Comer and Sylvia Mills and Gene, all of Fulton; one sister-in-law, Geneva Comer of Hamilton, Ala.; four grandchildren, Stacy Sharp, Robin Sharp, Leah Clayton and Adam Clayton, all of Tupelo.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul R. Clayton; one brother, Loid Comer; two sisters, Lillian Jane comer and Clarice Orilla Comer; and one infant sister.
Pallbearers will be Gene Mills, Paul Bradley, James Comer, Adam Clayton and Billy Wayne Wilburn. Honorary pallbearers will be Murry Lott, Mike Pate, Lawrence Stanley and Gwin Berryhill.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
