WILLODINE B. NELMS Tupelo - Willodine Blake Nelms, 91, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Wednesday, September 2, 2015, at Community Hospice at Darlington Oaks after an extended illness. She was born in Mathiston on December 1, 1923 to William Watkins and Bertha Lee Shaffer Blake. She worked and later retired as a book keeper at Westbrook's. She was a preschool worker at Calvary Baptist Church. Willodine was involved with many ministries including the Shepard Center and Meals on Wheels at Calvary Baptist Church, also English is a Second Language with First Baptist Church. She also retired from the Daily Journal after 25 years. After her second retirement Willodine started working for Gilbert's Home Healthcare. In her spare time, Willodine enjoyed reading. Willodine was a kind woman who ministered generously to friends and everyone she met. She was a lifelong and dedicated member of Calvary Baptist Church. Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, September 6, 2015, at Calvary Baptist Church with Dr. Jerry David Odom, Jr. and Rev. Jim Yates officiating. Graveside services will follow in Lee Memorial Park. W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements. Survivors include one daughter, Lana Nelms Odom of Ridgeland; two sons, Richard Nelms (Jackie) of Ackerman and Steven Nelms of Tupelo; three grandsons, Dr. Jerry David Odom, Jr. (Natalie) of Omaha, Nebraska, Daniel Odom (Cindy) of Tampa, Florida and Richard "Rick" Nelms (Dr. Sara) of Tupelo; three great grandchildren, Amanda and Emma Odom and Landon Nelms. She was preceded in death by both her parents; her husband, Elmer Nelms; son, Charlie Nelms and his wife Jeannie Nelms; son-in-law, Dr. Jerry David Odom, Sr. and one sister, Jimmie Blake Mace. Visitation will be 3 until 6 p.m. Saturday, September 5, 2015, at W. E. Pegues. Memorials may be made to the Calvary Baptist Church Building Fund, 501 West Main Street, Tupelo, Mississippi 38804.
