Willie D. Schumpert

September 23, 1938 — April 4, 2019

Plantersville - Willie David Schumpert, 80, died Thursday, April 4, 2019, at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo after an extended illness.  He was born in Itawamba County, September 23, 1938, to Curtis and Dovie Riley Schumpert and was a 1956 graduate of Itawamba Agricultural High School. On June 30, 1960, he married Burma Jo Ruff at Richmond Baptist Church. From 1958 until 1987, he worked as a machine operator for Charm Step Shoe. He enjoyed going to cow and mule sales and flea markets as well as farming, raising cattle and collecting knives and watches. Willie was a member of the Lee County Forestry Commission and Lee County Cattlemen's Association. He was a member of Boguefala Baptist Church where he served as Deacon for a number of years.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Burma Jo Schumpert; two children, Peggy Hussey and her husband, Stan of Tupelo and Joe David Schumpert and his wife, LaRonda of Plantersville; seven grandchildren, Chip Hussey and his wife, Lea Anna of Fulton, Bethany Graham and her husband, Jamie of Plantersville, Amanda Schumpert of Mooreville, Karley Hall of Plantersville, Samantha Keith and her husband, Cody of Mooreville, Chelsea Hussey of Mooreville and Gunner Hall of Plantersville; six great-grandchildren, Jada Graham, Eli Graham, Salem Graham, Emma Keith, Hunter Keith and Kathryn Keith; one sister, Geraldine Bethay of Nettleton; and one sister-in-law, Judy Schumpert of Fulton.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Charlie Schumpert; and one sister, Annie Jo Schumpert.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. Friday, April 5, 2019 at W.E. Pegues, Tupelo and from 10 a.m. until service time Saturday, April 6, 2019 at the church.

Services honoring his life will be 11 a.m. Saturday, April 6, 2019, at Boguefala Baptist Church with Bro. David Perry, Rev. Royce Hawkins and Rev. Jim Manley officiating. Burial will be in Unity Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Daniel Bethay, Larry Schumpert, Wayne Moore, Jamie Graham, Chip Hussey, Cody Keith and Gunner Hall.

Honorary pallbearers will be James Carnathan, Donnie Carwile, John Baker, Bill Maxwell, Mac Reedy, Randy Boozer, Richard Rushing, Willie Rushing and members of the men's Sunday School Class at Boguefala Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Boguefala Baptist Church, 690 HWY 371 N Mooreville, MS 38857 or Sanctuary Hospice House, PO Box 2177 Tupelo, MS 38803.
