William Travis Smothers

WILLIAM TRAVIS SMOTHERS

Tupelo - William Travis Smothers, 87, died Friday, May 12, 2006, at the North Miss. Medical Center after an extended illness. A Crockett County, Tennessee native, he was born April 28, 1919, to the late William Edgar and Effie Cherry Smothers. He was a retired diesel mechanic for Dixie Greyhound Bus Line in Memphis. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Memphis.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at the Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with the Rev. Tim Cox officiating. Entombment will be in Lee Memorial Park.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Martha Lynn Jones Smothers of Tupelo; one daughter, Elizabeth Ann Moore and her husband, Randal Clay, of Hernando; four grandchildren, William Travis Lowell of Tupelo, Corwin "Cory" Jared, Jessica Nicole Moore and Jackson Cole Moore, all of Hernando; one great-grandson, William Michael Clay Lowell of Iuka; one stepgrandson, Christopher Clayton Moore of Memphis; one brother, D.A. Smothers and his wife, Raye, of Memphis; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Geraldine Holland; and one brother, Brantley Cherry Smothers.

Pallbearers will be Lawrence Allen Smothers, Scott Smothers, David Rush, B. J. Bishop, Andy Bishop and Keith Brownlee.

Honorary pallbearers will be D.A. Smothers, Keith Jones, Tommy Quarles, Ivy Bishop, George Triacoff and Albert Metts.

Visitation will continue until service time today at the funeral home.
