William Cleveland Putt

November 17, 1921 — February 23, 2010

Saltillo - William Cleveland Putt, 88, died Tuesday, February 23, 2010, at the Sunshine Rest Home in Pontotoc after an extended illness. A Saltillo native and lifelong resident, he was born November 17, 1921, to Elmore and Mary Archibald Putt. He was retired from the City of Tupelo Maintenance Shop and a US Army veteran of World War II. He enjoyed playing and siging country music. He was a member of Mayfield Church of Christ.

Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at The Saltillo Chapel of W.E. Pegues with Bro. Jerry Grammer and Bro. Don Fox officiating. Burial will be in Mayfield Cemetery.

Survivors include two sons, William P. Putt (Lynn) of Guntown and Richard J. "Rick" Putt (Mary) of Saltillo; ten grandchildren, Christy Sweat and Kelly Williams of Guntown, Debbie Bunn of Saltillo, Richard W. Putt of Marietta, Tricha Putt of Saltillo, Jullie Putt McElhaney of Ecru, Jeanette Putt, Selena Putt, Delia Putt, and Hope Putt, all of Saltillo; 11 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 59 years, Edith Regina Rogers Putt; one sister, Mary Elizabeth Pirkle; one grandson, William Joseph Putt; and one granddaughter, Mary Elizabeth Putt.

Pallbearers will be Phillip Rogers, Rick Sweat, Art Williams, James Pirkle, Terry Bunn, and Eric McElhaney.

Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
