Mooreville--William H. Plunkett, age 95, passed away Friday, April 7, 2023 at the Sunshine Nursing Facility in Pontotoc after a lengthy illness. He was born February 6, 1927 in Beaverton, Alabama, the son of Esker and Bertha Cantrell Plunkett. He was a farmer and a master mechanic. William loved riding through the countryside with anyone who would ride along with him. He also enjoyed fishing and spending time with the family who adored him.
William leaves behind seven children, Tommy Plunkett of Savannah, Tenn., Bertha Akins of Rogers, Ark., Linda Clardy (Earnest) of Tupelo, Brenda Faughn (Terry) of Forest City, Ark., Donnie Plunkett (Becky) of Amory, Rickey Dale Plunkett (Danielle), of Bentonville, Ark., and Mickey Plunkett (Tanya) of Memphis, Tenn.; 38 grandchildren, 82 great-grandchildren, 35 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Nellogean Plunkett; four children, Jerry Daniel Plunkett, William Wayne Plunkett, Ronnie Plunkett, and Tony Lee Plunkett; his parents and four brothers.
Services will be 1 p.m. Sunday, April 9, 2023 at the Jefferson Street Chapel of Pegues with Bro. William Brown Officiating. Burial will be in Webb Cemetery in Henson Springs, Ala. Visitation will be 5 until 8 p.m. Saturday, April 8, 2023 at Pegues, Tupelo.
Pallbearers will be Robbie Faughn, Eric Plunkett, William Lowry, Justin House, Junior Plunkett, and Ray Wordleman.
