William O'Driscoll

WILLIAM O'DRISCOLL, JR.

Tupelo - William Cyril "Mr. Cy" O'Driscoll Jr., 90, died Sunday, Feb. 26, 2006, in Tupelo. He was born July 6, 1915, in Charleston to William Cyril O'Driscoll, M.D., and Rose Helene Bertrand O'Driscoll. He was a graduate of Bishop England High School and the College of Charleston in Charleston, S.C. He also attended Clemson University for electrical engineering study. He was a retired electroacoustics engineer for the U.S. Naval Shipyard in Charleston, S.C. He was an active member of both College of Charleston and Clemson Alumni Associations. He was a life member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. He was a member of the S.C. Historical Society, Sons of Confederate Veterans, James Island Yacht Club, La Societ Francaise, Knights of Columbus, Charleston Area alliance for the Mentally Ill., and Lowcountry Volkswagen Club. He was a former board member of Palmetto Pathways Inc. and past president of the Trident Chapter of the Good Sam Organization.

He lived in Charleston, S.C., 88 years before moving to New Orleans in September 2003. He was named the 2004 King of Mardi Gras at Malta Square Assisted Living Residence. After Hurricane Katrina in 2005, he moved to AvonLea Assisted Living Community in Tupelo.

A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at AvonLea Assisted Living Community. Mass will be said at a later date at Our Lady of Good Counsel on Folly Beach, S.C. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery on James Island, S.C. W.E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include two daughters, Connie K. Knight of Tolleson, Ariz., and Delia O. Armand and husband, Gale, of Metairie, La.; one son, W.C. O'Driscoll III and wife, Molly, of Green Sea, S.C.; one grandson, W.C. O'Driscoll IV and wife, Michelle, of North Carolina; two great-grandchildren, Daniel James and Sharon Louise O'Driscoll of North Carolina; one niece, Mrs. Walter Bourland of Tupelo.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Cleo Cole O'Driscoll, and a son, Daniel Clovis O'Driscoll.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Association for the Blind, the American Cancer Association, the American Heart Association or a charity of the donor's choice.
