William DeWitt

August 11, 1929 — February 12, 2009

Tupelo - William D. Witt Miller, 79, died Thursday, February 12, 2009, at his residence after a sudden illness. A Lee County native, he was born August 11, 1929 to Herman DeWitt and Ara Martin Miller. He was a 1947 graduate of Saltillo High School. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving in the Korean Conflict in the Combat Engineers Department and was awarded the Bronze Star, four bronze battle stars, a medal for bravery, the Korean Presidents Citation Award and the Combat Infantry Badge. He worked for Cedars Health Center about five years in maintenance after retiring from Payne Supply of Tupelo at the age of 60. He was a member of Birmingham Ridge Baptist Church and loved photography and quail hunting.

Services will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday, February 14, 2009 at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Sammy Lansdell officiating. Burial will be in McNeil Cemetery.

Survivors include two daughters, Jan Ford of Tupelo and Ann Weaver of Houston; one son, Andrew Miller of Tupelo; one sister, Sara Simmons and husband, Gill, of Carra Vista; one brother, Grady Miller and wife, Nita, of Sheffield, Alabama; several grandchildren and great grandchildren .

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Charlene Harris.

Visitation will be 10:30 a.m. until service time Saturday, February 14, 2009 at the funeral home.
