William “Bill” H. Wilson
William “Bill” Wilson, 88, of Saltillo, passed away Friday afternoon, June 21, 2024, in the CCU at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.
Services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, June 29, 2024, at the Saltillo Chapel of Pegues with Rev. John Brock officiating. Graveside services will be at Corinth National Cemetery 1 p.m. Monday, July 1, 2024. The family will accept friends at 12 p.m. until service time Saturday, June 29, 2024, at Pegues, Saltillo.
Mr. Wilson was born October 18, 1935, in Centreville, Mississippi to Robert V. Wilson and Katie Anderson Wilson. He attended Southwest Mississippi Junior College where he achieved an associate’s degree before entering the United States Air Force. Bill served his country with honor and distinction for 22 years. He loved aircraft and was a literal walking history book of avionics. After retiring he was the chief of operations for Transit Alert at Columbus AFB for over 12 years before retiring from that capacity. He was an avid fisherman when he could make the time dating back to his formative years at Centreville High School. It was once said that fishing was more important than eating to Bill. When he was not working or fishing, Bill was a charitable man and gave freely of his time and skillsets to others in his community.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his siblings Robert V. Wilson, Jr.; Margaret H. Wilson; and James A. Wilson.
He is survived by his son Paul Wilson, MAJ USAF, RET, North Las Vegas, Navada; and grandsons William Z. Wilson, Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin; and Robert T. Wilson, Iowa City, Iowa.
The family would like to recognize and extend a special thank you to Corra Blythe, Mr. Wilson's long-time friend and companion.
In addition, thanks go out to the CCU staff at North Mississippi Medical Center for their professionalism and compassion during Mr. Wilson's treatment and care.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, PO Box 50, Memphis, TN 38101.
