Fulton - William Owen Hightower Baker, 83, died Sunday, March 1, 2009, at The Meadows Health Care in Fulton after an extended illness. A Nettleton native, he was born July 4, 1925 to Ellis Raymond and Wilcie Willis Baker. He was the owner of Baker's Heating and Plumbing of Tupelo for 21 years. He was a US Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Infantry Division. He was a mason and shriner with the Tupelo Lodge. He enjoyed playing his guitar and loved gardening, especially his roses. He was married for nearly 60 years to Mildred Davis Baker He was a member of First Baptist Church of Tupelo.
Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Park.
Survivors include his wife of nearly 60 years, Mildred Davis Baker, of Fulton; one daughter, Sherry Pearce and husband, Donney, of the Auburn Community; one son, Ron Baker of Jerusalem, Israel; one brother, Coleman Baker of Senatobia; two grandchildren, Jessica Pearce Turner and husband, Matt of Tupelo and McCain Pearce of Auburn; and two great-grandchildren, Rob Turner and Pearce Turner.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Clara Cook, Illa Mae Winters, and Earline Fly; and two brothers, Quitman Baker and Marshall Baker.
