Mt. Vernon - Roy Wayne Vinson, 72, died Sunday, July 27, 2008, at The Reed Green House At Traceway after an extended illness. He was born May 17, 1936 to Roy Lee and Ottis Clayton Vinson of Tupelo. He and his wife, Faye Leathers Vinson, celebrated 45 years of marriage May 17, 2008. He was a U. S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a life long member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church. He was a paint contractor for 25 years and a Tupelo Fireman for 7 years. He loved his family, friends and his little dog, Prissy.
Services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 29, 2008 at the Mt. Vernon Baptist Church with Rev. Owen Riddick and Rev. Doug Westmoreland officiating. The music will be by the Mt. Vernon Baptist Church Choir. Burial will be in Union Cemetery at Belden. W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Faye, of Mt. Vernon; two daughters, Teresa Cooper and her husband, David, of Macedonia and Missy Vinson of Mt. Vernon; his 95 year old mother, Ottis Clayton Vinson of Mt. Vernon; one sister, Mary Frances Stephenson of Belden; five grandchildren, Darrell Cooper and his wife, Heather, Lori Cooper, Shea Roberts and her husband, T. J., Gregory Vinson, Bradley Hamblin; four great grandchildren, Zach Roberts, Paige Lowry, Kadi Vinson, Leah Vinson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Roy Vinson; a son, Greg Vinson; a sister, Virginia Gibson and her husband, Tommy; a brother-in-law, Ray Stephenson and his grandson, Shaun Lowry.
Pallbearers will be David Cooper, Darrell Cooper, Gregory Vinson, Ronnie Gibson, Roland Gibson, Van Stephenson, Jerry Clayton and Joe Clayton
Honorary Pallbearers will be Bradley Hamblin, Bud Rakestraw, Paul Coker, James L. Lackey, Tommy Jackson, Richard Stephenson and his Mt. Vernon Church Family.
Visitation will be 5 - 8 p.m. Monday, July 28, 2008 at the funeral home and will continue at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 29, 2008 until service time at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church.
