Wayne "Mutt" Mallette

March 29, 1939 — March 1, 2025

Saltillo

Wayne Allen “Mutt” Mallette, age 85, of Saltillo, Mississippi passed away on March 1, 2025, at North Mississippi Medical Center. Born on March 29, 1939, Mutt was the beloved husband of the late Mavis McBrayer Mallette, with whom he shared nearly 63 years of marriage. Mutt and Mavis are now reunited and in the presence of their Heavenly Father.

Mutt proudly served in the United States Army for two years before going on to work for Tombigbee Electric Power Association, where he dedicated many years of service until his retirement. He was an active and involved member of his community, always willing to lend a hand and offer a helping heart to those around him.

Mutt was a devoted father to his two sons, David Mallette and Stephen Mallette, and a loving grandfather to his five grandchildren: Alex Williams, the late Josh Mallette (2024), Brandon Mallette, Beth Brinkley, and Eric Patterson. Mutt was known for his strong work ethic, his love for his family, and his ability to make those around him laugh. He often referred to his sons as "his girls" when he would return home from work, a reminder of the special bond he shared with them.

In his free time, Mutt enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. He was an avid camper, hunter and fisherman, finding peace in nature and joy in outdoor adventures. He spent countless hours doing small engine repair in his spare time, always tinkering with and fixing them for friends and neighbors. Mutt was known for his love of wrestling and rarely missed it when it came on TV in his later years, much to the chagrin of his bride of almost 63 years. He never missed the opportunity to pull a prank or tell a good joke that would bring laughter to those around him. A strong believer in the Second Amendment, Wayne was an avid gun owner and enthusiast.

Mutt’s legacy is one of love, strength, and laughter. As a father, he set the example for what it meant to care for and love one’s family, teaching the importance of hard work, laughter, and dedication. He instilled these traits and lessons in his boys. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Mutt was preceded in death by the love of his life, Mavis McBrayer Mallette; his mother and stepfather, Faye and Joe Stanley; his brother, Terry Stanley; his grandson, Josh Mallette; and his great-grandson, Boone Brinkley.

Mutt is survived by his sons, David (Cathy) and Stephen (Lori); his grandchildren, Alex Williams (Dan), Brandon Mallette (Cameron), Beth Brinkley (Dustin), and Eric Patterson; his seven great-grandchildren, Adam, Jalyn, Elana, Holly, Dani, Hannah, Roper and soon to be Baby Boy Mallette; his sister, Linda Stanley; brother, Dan Stanley; and his extended family, friends, and the countless lives he touched throughout his lifetime.
