Wayne Bullard, 87, passed away Monday, June 10, 2019.
Mr. Bullard grew up in Booneville and graduated from Booneville High School in 1950. He attended Mississippi College in Clinton. During these years, a part-time job led him to meet Dorothy Grisham and they married in 1955.
He worked in the insurance industry for many years and was a part of several well-known companies. He not only took pride in his work, but relished the friendships and relationships he developed as his career progressed. More recently, he ran his own small business as a real estate appraiser until he retired.
Most of his adult life was spent in Tupelo where he and his wife raised their sons and he was active in the community as a longtime member of the local Civitan Club and Tupelo’s Major Thoroughfare Committee. He also served as a Deacon at Harrisburg Baptist Church. He always spent time with his boys, fishing or tinkering on their trucks. Being with family was among the things that made him happiest.
He loved the outdoors, especially working in the yard, where oftentimes, he found projects that kept him busy from sunup to sundown. Helping others was a labor of love for Mr. Bullard. In addition to his civic and church involvement, it was not uncommon for him to assist people in need or down on their luck – without anyone’s knowledge. A man of deep faith, he read his Bible nightly, and in addition to his home church, loved participating in 5th Sundays at New Hope Church in Prentiss County.
For the last four and a half years, he lived with his loving and devoted wife, Dot, at Provision Assisted Living in Hattiesburg, surrounded by new friends and loving and attentive staff.
He leaves his wife of 64 years, Dorothy Grisham Bullard of Hattiesburg; two sons, Daniel Wayne Bullard (Pamela) of Hattiesburg, and David Bradley Bullard (Melissa) of Harvest, Alabama; four grandchildren, David Wayne Bullard (Rosie) of Hattiesburg, Brian Reid Bullard (Faith) of Santa Cruz, California, Eric Bradley Bullard and Katherine Brooke Bullard both of Harvest; one great-grandchild, Tatum Grace Bullard of Hattiesburg; and two sisters, Martha Jane Jordan of Ashland and Wilma Jeane Odom of Diamondhead.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William A. Bullard and Evelyn Bullard; his sister Betty Holly; and two brothers, Kenneth Bullard and Adrian Bullard.
The family will receive visitors on Friday, June 14 from 5 until 7 p.m. at W.E. Pegues, Tupelo.
Services honoring his life will be 10 a.m. Saturday, June 15, 2019 at the Jefferson Street Chapel of W.E. Pegues with burial to follow.
