Waymond (Benny) Williams

Richmond - Waymond B. (Benny) Williams, 90, died Saturday, July 9, 2011, at Community Hospice at Darlington Oaks after a brief illness. A native of Dorsey, he was born May 26, 1921, to Walter A. and Mattie Belle Russell Williams. He attended Itawamba Agricultural High School and served in the United States Army, a veteran of World War II. He was also a lifetime member of The American Legion. He was a retired dry cleaner, having owned and operated Gilpin Cleaners for many years. He was known for his dry wit and sense of humor, always expressing the quote, "whatever it takes." He was the oldest member of Richmond Baptist Church where he attended faithfully until his health failed.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday, July 11, 2011, at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Dr. Clay Anthony and Sammy Lansdell officiating. Burial will be in Andrews Chapel Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Maxine Helms Williams of Richmond; his sister, Sarah Gray (Buddy) of Richmond; nieces and nephews, Martha Holloway (Jeff C.) of Richmond, Mitzi Bridges (Jim) of Germantown, TN, Vicki Goddard (J. Larry) of Tupelo, Patti Rowan of Palmetto, Melissa Metcalfe of Palmetto, Melinda McKnight of Palmetto, Hannah McKnight of Palmetto, Katie and Megan Linley of Palmetto, Jeffrey Holloway (Mandy) of Richmond, Caleb Goddard of Tupelo; a special great-great-niece Olivia Holloway of Richmond; a sister-in-law, Irene Helms McDaniel of Richmond.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Burma Williams Rheaume; two brothers-in-law, John Rheaume and Eugene McDaniel.

Pallbearers will be The deacons of Richmond Baptist Church, Bill Shumpert, John Locke, David Gillentine, Brad Gillmore, Mark Wilson, Michael Lindsey, Brian Lindsey, Rodney Lindley, Keith Strawn and Bob Shumpert.

Honorary Pallbearers will be the members of the Adult Men's Sunday School Class of Richmond Baptist Church.

Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Richmond Baptist Church Building Fund.
