Walter Estes
SHANNON - Walter Herman Estes, a lifelong resident of Shannon, died Friday, July 20, 2007, as the result of an automobile accident near Jackson on the Natchez Trace. He was a graduate of Shannon High School and a retired employee of Paine Supply Company of Tupelo with over 20 years of service. After retirement, he started a car wash business in the Shannon area. He was a member of the Night Bike Riders Motorcycle Club, the Good Sam Camping Club and the Hardee's Coffee Drinkers Club. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and riding motorcycles. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Shannon.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at the Jefferson Street Chapel of W.E. Pegues with the Rev. Terry Ledbetter officiating. Burial will be in the Shannon Cemetery.
Survivors include two daughters, Martha Gordon and her husband, Senator Jack Gordon, of Okolona, and Sara Earnest of Nettleton; one son, John Estes and his wife, Lynn, of Shannon; six grandchildren, Natalie, Kim, Leigh, Carole, Jason, Jody and Sabrina; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Ocie Renshaw Estes, who died July of 1989; his parents, Joe Howard Estes and Myrtle Harris Estes; one brother, J.K. Estes; and one sister, Merlene Whitesides.
Pallbearers will be Larry Johnson, Houston Minniece, Joe Young, Ted Gordon, James Burleson and Mike Scott. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Night Bike Riders Club.
Memorials may be made to the Prayer Garden Fund at First Baptist Church in Shannon.
