Vona Beatrice Morgan

Greenwood - Vona Beatrice Beene Morgan, 91, died Tuesday, April 24, 2012, in Greenwood. A native of Itawamba County, she was born June 10, 1920 to Thurmond and Agnes Beene. She attended Itawamba Agricultural High School and was a member of their state championship basketball team. She was a very prolific citizen and was self motivated beyond belief. An accomplished musician, she enjoyed playing piano, organ, guitar and was a wonderful vocalist. She encouraged her children, including nieces, nephews, and children in the church and community to be interested in music, many of whom are in the music field today. She was an active member of Fawn Grove Baptist Church. During her lifetime she was very interested in drama and would promote plays and skits with the young people and participated in competitions. She was known for her beautiful yard. Flowers were her specialty. She was a very active member of her civic clubs such as the Rural Community Development Club and Home Extension. She was also proficient in the arts, painting and making crafts. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, April 28, 2012, at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Rev. Grady Davidson and Rev. Danny Rushing officiating. Burial will be in Fawn Grove Cemetery. Survivors include her daughter, Beverly Morgan Smith of Greenwood; two grandchildren, Scott Morgan Smith (Angela) of Morgan City, La. and Amy Jo Davis of Greenwood; five great-grandchildren, Jessica Morgan Davis and Casey Jo Davis of Greenwood, Austin Lishman Smith and Peyton Smith of Morgan City, La., and Morgan Rivers Smith of Collierville, Tenn.. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Jesse Vardaman Morgan, and her daughter, Charlotte Morgan Liska. Pallbearers will be Tim Taylor of Greenwood, Tim Jones of Mantachie, Bobby Irvin of Dorsey, William Morgan of Atlanta, Ga., Austin Smith of Morgan City, La and Rodney McFerrin of Mantachie. Visitation will be 10 a.m. to service time Saturday at the funeral home.
