Virginia Wood

July 11, 1929 — February 10, 2018

Tupelo- Virginia Wood, 88 , died Saturday, February 10, 2018 at her residence in Tupelo.  She was born in the Mt. Vernon Community July 11, 1929, to Eli and Vera Horton. Virginia was a graduate of Belden High School and attended MSCW. She was a long-time realtor several years ago and worked as secretary to the Registrar at the Itawamba Community College branch of the Ole Miss campus. She was an active  member of the Junior Women's Club, Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Jaycettes. Outside of her group activities, she enjoyed playing bridge, gardening, playing the piano and conducting research on genealogy. She was also an avid reader.  Virginia was a dedicated long-time member of First Presbyterian Church  where she played the piano for many Sunday school sessions and held the role of children's librarian for over 30 years.

Survivors include two sons, Richard Wood and his wife, Leslie of Gahanna, Ohio and James Wood of Jackson; one sister, Betty Nash of Tupelo; one grandson, Tyler Wood of Gahanna;  three nephews, Milton, Dan, and Andy Nash; and a very special friend and long time care giver, Vickie Johnson of Okolona.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother-in-law, Davis Earl Nash and one nephew, Davis Nash.

A memorial service will be 3 p.m. Saturday, February 17, 2018 at First Presbyterian Church of Tupelo with Rev. Olin McBride officiating.
