VIRGINIA SHEFFIELD Tupelo - Virginia Gunter Sheffield, 89, died Sunday, October 28, 2012, at The North Mississippi Medical Center. She was born August 8, 1923 in Lee County to Glen and Janie Kelly Gunter. She was one of the first bookkeepers at Hancock Fabrics and worked there for forty years. She had lived at Avon Lea Assisted Living for the past seven years. She enjoyed playing cards, working crossword puzzles and planting flowers. She loved to travel with her family and keep picture journals. She was a lifelong member of St. Mark United Methodist Church. Services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 30, 2012 at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Rev. Glyn Wiygul and Rev. Don McCain officiating. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Park. W.E. Pegues Funeral Directors will be in charge of the arrangements. Survivors include one son, Mark Sheffield (Juanita) of Florence, Alabama; three grandchildren, Ryan Sheffield (Amy) of Columbus, Georgia, Hayley Sheffield Hedrick (Ben) of Marietta, Georgia and Kelsey Sheffield Campbell (Nathan) of Florence, Alabama; five great-grandchildren, Carolina and Rollins Sheffield of Columbus, Georgia, Anders, Mary Gunter and Sadler Hedrick of Marietta, Georgia; one daughter-in-law, Sherrie Sheffield of Columbus; one sister, Emma Lee Harrison of Tupelo; one brother, James C. Gunter (Lucille) of Tupelo. She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Russell Sheffield; her son, Rodney Russell Sheffield; two twin grandaughters, Jessica and Lauren Sheffield. Pallbearers will be Ben Hedrick, Ryan Sheffield, Nathan Campbell, Brian Pipkin, Dusty Johnson and Harrison Griffin. Visitation will be 5 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, October 29, 2012 at the funeral home. Donations can be made in her memory to St. Mark United Methodist Church, 307 Elvis Presley Dr., Tupelo, Mississippi, 38801.
