Tupelo " Virginia Cole Poole, 90, died Wednesday, September 23, 2009, at The Sanctuary Hospice House after an extended illness. A native of Guntown, she was born November 11, 1918, to Leander Valentine (Volly) and Johnnie Shell Cole. A 1936 graduate of Baldwyn High School, she then went on to Electric Mills Nursing School where she graduated in 1939. That same year she married C.S. Poole who preceded her in death October 21, 1985. She worked as a registered nurse at the Singing River Hospital in Pascagoula, then at the Tupelo and Baldwyn Hospitals, retiring after more than twenty years of service. She was a former member of First Baptist Church of Baldwyn and a longtime dedicated member of Harrisburg Baptist Church. For 54 years she taught Sunday School and was also very active in the WMU. She was a member of the Sorosis Club and her Canasta Card Group and enjoyed working out at the Harrisburg Wellness facility. She loved her family and church friends.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Rev. David Langerfeld and Rev. David Smith officiating. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Park.
Survivors include one daughter, Sandra Lynn Hood of Tupelo; two sons, Charles Poole of Fairbanks, Alaska and James Poole (Lisa) of Tupelo; five grandchildren, John Clark Poole, Harrison Cole Poole, Sarah Grace Poole, Samuel Joseph Haase, and Andrew BJ Haase; one great-grandson, Weston Clark Poole; nine nieces and nine nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 46 years, C.S. Poole; two brothers, Looman Cole, W.L. (Pete) Cole; Four sisters, Maude Dillard, Carrie Cole, Cecil Love, and Millie Mae Ragland.
Pallbearers will be Teddy Love, Jackie Cole, John Poole, Harrison Poole, Justin Hall, Chuck Herrington
Honorary Pallbearers will be the Fidelis Sunday School Class of Harrisburg Baptist Church.
Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
