Virginia L. Ingellis
Virginia Lee Ingellis, 96, of Tupelo joined her beloved husband, Fred, in the arms of our Lord soon after midnight on the morning of December 8, 2022. She was born in Rosedale, Mississippi on September 2, 1926 to the late Virgie Stokes Christian and the late Marlow Thomas Christian. As a child she moved with her family to Tupelo where she grew up, then enlisted in the US Army Air Corps during World War II when she was only 17 years old on May 12, 1944. There she met and married Fred, was discharged with honor on December 1, 1944, and moved back to Tupelo with her husband and first child after the end of the war. She worked at Rex Plaza Restaurant at one time, and was later head clerk and deputy at the Lee County Tax Collector’s Office for many years.
She, as well as her loving husband of 70 years, devoted her life to serving others through her many positions in the American Legion Tupelo Post #49 since 1945. She was not only a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, but also the American Legion itself and even rose to the position of Commander over Post #49 and was the first female Post Commander in the state of Mississippi.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, aunt, great-aunt, and friend to everyone she met and will be sorely missed by her world.
Survivors include her loving children, daughters, Michele “Mickie” Ingellis Pickard of Maumelle, Arkansas; Maria (Teri) Ingellis Everett of Tupelo; son Fred Anthony (Tony) Ingellis (wife, Belinda) of Becker, MS; grandchildren Kellie Dickey (husband Lynn), Ashlie Ardoin (husband Eric), Christopher Ingellis (wife Amanda), all of Maumelle, AR; Shane Ingellis of Tupelo; six precious great-grandchildren Alexis Nichols (husband Zach), Isabella Ingellis (fiancé Noah Larson), Nicholas Ingellis, and Ella and Vivian Ardoin, all of Maumelle, AR; and Addisyn Ingellis of Tishomingo, MS, one great-great-grandson, Nash Nichols of Maumelle, Arkansas all of whom brought great joy to her later years, and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, friends and loved ones.
In addition to her adoring husband, Fred, she was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Marlow F. “Buddy” Christian and Eugene Delano “Ed” Christian, and sister Frances M. Mitchell; one granddaughter, Hope M. Ingellis of Tupelo; and loving daughter-in-law, Kathie Herring Ingellis and son-in-law, 1SG Ralph Anthony “Tony” Everett.
Graveside services honoring Virginia’s life will be 2 p.m. Monday, December 12, 2022, at Lee Memorial Park in the Veterans section with Rev. Charles Petty of Smithville officiating.
