Virginia V. Gibson

Tupelo - Virginia Vinson Granny Gibson, 73, died Monday, March 3, 2008, at The North Mississippi Medical Center after an extended illness. A Tupelo native, she was born March 23, 1934 to Otis Clayton Vinson and the late Roy Lee Vinson. She was raised in Tupelo and was a 1952 graduate of Tupelo High School. Earlier in her life, she worked over 20 years with Pennsylvania Tire. She worked 23 years as the financial Secretary with First United Methodist Church where she retired in 2003. She loved her family, church family, flower gardening, and reading and studying the Bible. She enjoyed taking care of her pet Chihuahua, "Turbo." She was an active member of West Jackson Street Baptist and loved the Lord with all her heart.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at West Jackson Street Baptist Church with Rev. Bert Harper officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery near Belden.

Survivors include her children, Ronald and Ann Gibson, Roland and Judy Gibson, and Lane and Eric Senter, all of Tupelo; her mother, Otis Vinson of Tupelo; twelve grandchildren, Michelle Sapp (Stephen) of Tupelo, Angie Clark (Mike) of Mooreville, Amanda Morgan (Brad) of Tupelo, Hope Gibson of Memphis, Heather Gibson of Greenville, South Carolina, Kari Gibson of Starkville, Shawn Summers (Jennifer) of Tupelo, Landon Summers of Starkville, Brigid McCool of Tupelo, Colm McCool of Tupelo, Timothy Sartain of Tupelo, and Laura Sartain of Texarkana, Texas; six great grandchildren, Kyle, Hunter, Haley, Chase, Mikey, and Savannah; one brother, Wayne Vinson (Faye) of Tupelo; one sister, Mary Frances Stephenson of Belden; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Gibson of Tupelo; a very special friend, Von Murphy of Tupelo; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Tommy Gibson; her father, Roy Lee Vinson; one daughter, Linda Sartain, and one granddaughter, LeAnn Sartain.

Pallbearers will be Doc Robbins, Buster Priddy, Ken Robinson, Kevin Park, Billy Langford, Buddy Davis, Louidean Ball, Kenneth Pickens, Ronnie Bunnell, Carl Stuper.

Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, Lee County Chapter, 1800 W. Main Street, Tupelo, MS 38801; West Jackson Street Baptist Church Building Fund, 1349 West Jackson Street, Tupelo, MS 38801 or The Sanctuary Hospice House.

The body will lie in state from 10 a.m. until service time at the Church on Wednesday.
