VIRGINIA K. ETHRIDGE
Tupelo - Virginia K. Ethridge, 89, died Saturday, April 7, 2007, at Community Hospice at Darlington Oaks in Verona after a brief illness. A Boone, Iowa native, she was born April 16, 1917 to the late Irvin and Mary Kelley. She moved to Chicago in 1937 and met her future husband while working as a hostess in Hardings restaurant. She was a 50 year member of the Eastern Star, a homemaker, an amateur artist, and was president of the Homewood Junior Woman's Club in Homewood, Illinois. She was active in bringing about the establishment of the Homewood-Flossmoor High School District, which became one of the premier high schools in the state of Illinois. Moving to Myrtle when her husband retired in 1980, she enjoyed small town life and made many friends including her Sunday school class, The Willing Workers, at Myrtle United Methodist Church where she was a member.
An Eastern Star service will be graveside at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Gerizim Cemetery in Myrtle. W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include one son, Tom Ethridge and his wife, Jo Anne; one grandson, Tommy, all of Tupelo; her sister, Amine Youst of Santa Rosa, California; her sister-cousin, Geraldine Bell of Boone, Iowa; and all her caregivers at the Rosewood Residence.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Ralph.
