Virginia Berryhill – Mooreville, MS
Virginia “Ginny” Lee Berryhill, 83, gained her angel wings on June 21, 2024, after a long period of illness. She passed peacefully in Tupelo, MS, with her devoted husband of 63 years, Max Berryhill, by her side. Ginny was born in Sheffield, Alabama to Paul Cecil Poag and Ruth Baker Poag. In the 1960’s, she served as an air force wife during her husband’s military service. Her favorite post in which Max was stationed was no doubt Homestead, Florida. As a homemaker, she ran and organized the household throughout many moves over the years. She became a mom at 31, relatively late by today’s standards, and again devoted herself tirelessly to raising her only child.
Ginny was passionate about her love of nature and animals. She instilled this zeal into her daughter, and often her daughter’s friends, as she shared her knowledge with any child that would come into her path. She loved beachcombing and was the “cool mom” who could boogie board and ride waves with the best of them on Florida beaches. She enjoyed traveling with her husband and daughter, and especially loved hiking the mountains of Montana. Ginny was a devoted daughter to her family, caring for her parents in their twilight years.
Ginny was a faithful member of the East Main Church of Christ in Tupelo, MS, continuing to study in her faith even after being physically unable to attend services. She ministered to the community by helping to organize clothing and food pantry events over the years and shared her organizational skills to make these successful.
Ginny is survived by her husband, Max Berryhill; her daughter, Bridgette Alexandrou (David); her brother, Paul Poag Jr.; and loving nieces and nephews.
Ginny was preceded in death by her parents, Paul Cecil Poag and Ruth Baker Poag; her brother, Stephen Ray Poag; and her baby sister, Saundra Sue Poag.
A memorial service will be held at the East Main Church of Christ, 1606 East Main Street, Tupelo, MS, on Tuesday, June 25, 2024. The family will receive visitors from 1 p.m. until service time, with services beginning at 2 p.m. Memorial service arrangements are made under the direction of Pegues Funeral Directors.
In lieu of flowers, honorarium donations may be made to the Tupelo Lee Humane Society in Tupelo, Mississippi. Lastly, her daughter requests that you take a moment to do a kind thing for a person or an animal in need, in Ginny’s honor, to continue her legacy of serving others.
