VIRGIL MAURICE SUTTON

Eggville - Virgil Maurice Sutton, 69, died Wednesday, May 31, 2006, at his residence after an extended illness. He was born September 22, 1936 in Memphis, Tenn. He was a proud US Marine Corps veteran serving from 1956 to 1960. In 1997 he retired as a truck driver from from Yellow Freight after 30 years of service. He was a long time resident of the Eggville Community and enjoyed spending time with his family and gardening. He loved his two pets, Husky and Smokey who followed him through his garden. He also enjoyed playing pool with his brothers-in-law, Richard Roper, G. W. Dye and friend, Slim Barnett. He will also be remembered as an avid Ole Miss and St. Louis Cardinal fan. He was a member of Eggville Freewill Baptist Church.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, June 3, 2006 at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Rev. Gerald Gann officiating. Elizabeth Stephens will deliver the eulogy. Burial will be in the Corinth National Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Mary Anne Sutton of Tupelo; his daughter, Patricia Sutton Dykes and husband, David, of Madison; his son, Gary Lance Sutton and wife, Paula, of Dumas; his much loved grandchildren, Danielle and Dustin Dykes, Lisa Aultman and husband, Robert; two great-grandchildren, Austin and Cody Aultman; and one niece, Linda Roberts of Amory.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Katie Austin; a sister, Eva Davis; and a nephew, Jackie Davis.

Pallbearers will be Richard Roper, G.W. Dye, Gerald Hardy, Ben Hardin, Robert Aultman, Mack Fowler, John Sample, Mark Carpenter.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Frankie Hopkins and Jim Roberts.

Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
