VIRGIL L. SMITH Mooreville - Virgil Leon Smith, 95, passed away Saturday, May 7, 2016, at North Mississippi Medical Center Hospice Unit.  He was born in Shannon on October 15, 1920, to Charlie Harrison and Minnie McKinney Smith.  He was a graduate of Mooreville High School and a graduate of Itawamba Junior College. Virgil was a veteran of the United States Army Air Corp serving during World War II in Europe. Most of his working career was spent repairing watches and clocks. Virgil loved gospel singing, working in his rose garden, and spending time with his family. He was a member of Boguefala Baptist Church.   A celebration of life service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 11, 2016, at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Rev. Grady Davidson officiating.  Graveside services with Military Honors will be 1 p.m., Wednesday, May 11, 2016, in Corinth National Cemetery.  W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.   Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Mary Smith of Mooreville: two daughters, Kathie Smith Haskett (Wayne) of Alamogordo, New Mexico and Joyce Smith Padan of Amory; one brother, Gordon Smith (Ann) of Mooreville; one sister-in-law, Irene Smith of Tupelo; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.   He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Cecil McLear and Aubrey Smith; and two sisters, Charlene Smith Martin and Ruby McLear Edwards.   Visitation will be 4 until 7 p.m., Tuesday, May10, 2016, at W. E. Pegues, Tupelo.   Virgil's family would like to extend a very special thank you to the staff of the North Mississippi Medical Center Hospice Unit & Emergency Room and the First Responders of the Mooreville Fire Department for their excellent care.   In lieu of flowers, memorials in his honor may be made to the American Heart Association, 4830 McWillie Circle, Jackson, MS 39206.   Expressions of sympathy may be left at www.peguesfuneralhome.com
