Okolona - Marvin Virgil Scott, 74, died Saturday, May 31, 2008, at his residence after an extended illness. A Saltillo native, he was born October 23, 1933 to the late Charlie Thomas and Esther Ella House Scott. He married Marlene Scott in 1954 and they lived in Danville, Illinois and Tyler, Texas before returning to North Mississippi six years ago. He was retired from General Motors. He enjoyed camping, fishing and spending time with his family. He was a member of Selman City Christian Church in Overton, Tex.
Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Rev. Ricky Pearce and Rev. John McAllister officiating. Burial will be in McNeil Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Marlene Scott of Okolona; one daughter, Elizabeth Whitaker, and husband, Buddy, of Okolona; one son, Steven Scott of Tyler, Tex.; three grandchidlren, Steven Whitaker and wife, LeeAnn, of Okolona, and Emily Scott of Tyler, Tex., Rhonda Kelly and husband, Jake, of Mooreville; seven great-grandchildren, Melody, Shae , and Destiny Criddle, Kirstein, Matthew, Austin, and Zachery Whitaker, all of Okolona; one sister, Pauline (Polly) Harris of Saltillo; four brothers, Harston (Buddy) Scott of Hoopston, Il., Quincy Scott and wife, Faye, of Georgetown, Il., Wayne Scott and wife, Betty Lou, of Mantachie, and Larry Joe Scott and wife, Sherry, of Gifford, Il..
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Laura Lee Payne and Annie Stanford; one brothers, Bobby Scott; a daughter, Catherine Ruth Scott; two grandsons, Matthew Scott and Buddy Whitaker, Jr.
Pallbearers will be his nephews and Jody Hampton and Frankie Sullivan.
Visitation will be 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
