Viola Hendrix

September 9, 1915 — January 25, 2010

Furrs - Viola Holcomb Arnold Hendrix, 94, died Monday, January 25, 2010, at The Sanctuary Hospice House after an extended illness. A native of the Furrs Community, she was born September 9, 1915 to Albert L. and Loretta Perkins Holcomb. During World War II, she worked as a welder for Engles Shipyard. Prior to and following the war, she worked as a seamstress for Reed Manufacturing from which she retired.. She enjoyed gardening and bird watching. She was the widow of Ivy Thomas Hendrix whom she married in 1944. She was a member of Furrs Baptist Church and is remembered as a prayer leader for her family and friends. She will be grievously missed.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Rev. Steve Cohea officiating. Burial will be in New Zion Cemetery.

Survivors include one daughter, Loretta Frey (Edward) of Belden; one son, Rayburn Lee Arnold, Sr. (Carolyn) of Starkville; five grandchildren, Glenda Dixon (Chris) of Vicksburg, Jeanette Britt (Greg) of Brandon, Rayburn Lee Arnold, Jr. (Janice) of Cumming, Ga., Elizabeth Frey of Memphis, and Catherine Frey of Tupelo; one sister, Grace Fielder of the Furrs Community; one brother, Calvin Holcomb of Furrs; nine great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Charlie Holcomb (Katherine) and Arnold Holcomb (Stella); an infant sister, Connie Holcomb; a great-granddaughter, Jessica Dixon; a brother-in-law, L.D. "Slim" Fielder and a sister-in-law, Marie Holcomb.

Pallbearers will be Chris Dixon, Joshua Dixon, Vernon Holcomb, Greg Britt, Charles A. Holcomb, and Taylor Muse.

Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
