Rev. Vernon Shaffer
Tupelo- Rev. Vernon Edward Shaffer, 68, died Monday June 24, 2019, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo after a sudden illness. He was born January 11, 1951 in Denver, Colorado to Edward E. Shaffer and Nancy Margaret Greene Shaffer. Rev. Shaffer was raised in the Denver area. In 1997 he and his family relocated to Tupelo where he and his wife became house parents with the Tupelo Children’s Mansion. Rev. Shaffer also served as head of maintenance with the Children’s Mansion. On April 21, 1972 he married April Shaffer and they shared 47 years together. He was a member of Cedar Grove United Pentecostal Church in Tupelo. He loved to preach the gospel and serve with Children’s Ministries. He was a hard worker who enjoyed building things. In his early years he enjoyed fishing. He was known for his innate ability to make people laugh.
Survivors include his wife, April Shaffer; four daughters, twins Tabitha Shaffer of Tupelo, and Rachel Stark and her husband, Stacy of New Albany, Sarah Evans and her husband, Dale, of Walkerton, Indiana and Rebecca Anglin and her husband Michael of Walnut; four grandchildren, Michael Paul Anglin, II, Matthew Allen Anglin, Kalei Moriah Evans, and Emily Megan Evans; His brothers and sisters, Bobby Shaffer of Apache Junction, Arizona, Anna Davis of Mansfield, Missouri, Terry Shaffer of Mansfield, Sue Colvin of Apache Junction and Gary Shaffer of Mansfield.
A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday June 29, 2019 at Cedar Grove United Pentecostal Church with Pastor Danny Robbins officiating.
