VERNA S. WILLIAMS Tupelo - Verna S. Williams, 86, passed away Thursday, August 13, 2015 at North Mississippi Medical Center. On June 17, 1929, she was born in Meridian, Mississippi. Verna began school at Martha Berry School for Girls in Mount Berry, Georgia. On July 28, 1948, she married Johnnie Roy Williams in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. She was a member at the North Mississippi Art Association and Christian Women's Club. Verna held a Bible study in her home on Thursday afternoons. In her spare time Verna enjoyed reading and working in her flower garden. She spent many hours painting and truly enjoyed it. She painted hundreds of paintings in watercolor of old Tupelo, but oils was her favorite medium to work with and she sold many of her paintings. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and attended regularly until a decline in her health. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, August 17, 2015 at Tupelo Memorial Park. Survived by four children, Wayne Williams of the Memphis, Tennessee area, Joie Clemons of Scottsburg, Alabama, Buddy Williams of Rockville, Maryland and Ellen Wigginton of Dallas, Texas; ten grandchildren; two great grandchildren. Preceded in death by her beloved husband, Johnnie Roy Williams and one son, Jerry Williams. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to First United Methodist Church.
