VELMA FOWLER
Tupelo - VELMA FOWLER, 72, died Wednesday, August 23, 2006, at her sons residence after an extended illness. A Lee County native, she was born July 17, 1934 to the late Jim and Maudie Ellis. Earlier in her life, she was employed with Blue Bell Manufacturing. She attended church at the Salvation Army and was a member of Home League and a ladies vocal ensemble which sung in many area nursing homes. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She loved the time she spent at Hardees and Johnnie's visiting with friends.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Rev. Mark Tutor officiating. Ed Earnest will deliver the eulogy. Burial will be in Andrews Chapel Cemetery.
Survivors include three daughters, Betty Peters and husband, Mack, of Tupelo, Billie Lee Culvert and husband, Joe, of Colorado, and Donna Kay Loague, of Fulton; two sons, Kerry Fowler and wife, Sherry of Mantachie, and Terry Fowler, of Tupelo; three sisters, Sally Parker of Saltillo, Brenda Carter of Tupelo, and Helen McClarty of Saltillo; one brother, James Earl Ellis of Tupelo; 11 grandchildren, Carolyn Earnest and husband, Ed, John Mark Peters and wife, Kelly, Jody Culvert, DeAnna Foster, Shelley Fowler, Shannon Loague, Sydney Rogers, Mallory Fowler, Makayla Fowler, Madison Fowler, Keeley Fowler; four great-grandchildren, Taylor Foster, John Mac Peters, Jenna Kate Peters, Anden Earnest; a special friend and caretaker, Renea Guthrie; and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and three sisters, Shirley House, Dorothy Raines, and her twin, Delma Payne.
Pallbearers will be Mack Peters, Ed Earnest, John Mark Peters, and Johnny Payne.
Visitation will be 5 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and from 9 a.m. until service time Saturday.
