Cayson - Valera Mae "Sis" Pettigrew ,100, died Saturday, March 14, 2015, at her residence in Cayson Community. A native and life-long resident of Tupelo, she was born July 14, 1914 to Claude and Gussie Roebuck. On April 26, 1936 she married Carlos Pettigrew who she was married to for 73 years. She was a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker. She was a long time member of First Baptist Church in Tupelo. She and her husband Carlos were long time involved community members. They were also the proprietors of Pettigrew's Greenhouses where they sold tomatoes throughout North Mississippi. Sis loved her flowers and gardening. She created a beautiful scenery at her home in Tupelo as well as the Cayson community. Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 17, 2015 at Jefferson Street Chapel with Dr. Gayle Alexander officiating. Burial will be in Conwill Cemetery in Monroe County. W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements. Survivors include her daughter, Joan Taylor Walters (James); one grandson, Russell Taylor (Karen); three great grandchildren, John Austin, Peyton, and Ella Kate Taylor; one brother, Claude Roebuck and one sister, Jewelene Barber. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; one son in law, Owen Taylor; one sister, Luene Waycaster and one brother, Thomas Roebuck. Pallbearers will be John Austin Taylor, Peyton Taylor, Bobby Sprayberry, Don Rogers, David Taylor and Kenneth Williams. Visitation will be 5 - 8 p.m. Monday, March 16, 2015 and continue Tuesday, March 17, 2015 at 11:30 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.
