TUPELO- Varie Gross, 89, died Sunday March 30 at her residence after an extended illness. She was born May 25, 1918 in Itawamba County. She was a member of Harrisburg Baptist Church. She was a retired secretary/bookkeeper for The Spurgeon Hall Glass Co. of Tupelo where she worked for 20-plus years. She loved the Lord and was a devoted Christian lady to her family and friends. She loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include one daughter, Betty Kaye Armstrong (Criss) of Pontotoc; one brother Rev. R.J. Wilemon (Ruth) of Tupelo; one sister-in-law Opal Wileman of Aberdeen; a very special friend Ilona Baver of Tupelo; two grandchildren, Clay Armstrong of Starkville and Cory Armstrong (Allison) of Pontotoc; and two great grandchildren, Cade Armstrong and Conner Armstrong.
She was preceded in death by her husband Elmer Gross, to whom she was married to for 20 years when he died in January of 1955; her parents R.E. Wilemon and Ophie Hood Wilemon; one sister Elsie Dulaney; three brothers G.L. Wilemon, Ralph Wilemon and Fray Wilemon.
Pallbearers will be Ernie Wilemon, G.L. Wilemon Jr., Scott Wilemon,Todd Wilemon, Brandon Wilemon, Brian Wilemon, Josh Westmoreland, and Dr. Gary Digby.
Services will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at the Jefferson Street Chapel with Rev. Danny Wilemon officiating and Dale Wilemon and Dr. Forest Sheffield assisting. Burial will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Fulton.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at W.E. Pegues Funeral Home.
