Tupelo - Van B. Chaney, 78, died Friday, November 27, 2009, at Sanctuary Hospice House after an extended illness. He was born February 10, 1931 in Rosedale, Mississippi to Mary and Van B.Chaney Sr. He married Peggy Galloway on May 29, 1960 in Rosedale in the Presbyterian Church. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and served in Alaska as a radar mechanic during the Cold War. He retired as the Vice-President of manufacturing from K-Dee Metal in Belmont. He was very creative and artistic and after retirement, he painted and remained very active as a coppersmith for many years. He created beautiful works of art which were highly sought after all over the state. He was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday, November 30, 2009, at All Saints Episcopal Church with Father Paul Stephens officiating. W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife of nearly 50 years, Peggy Galloway Chaney of Tupelo; two sons, Van Galloway Chaney (Miranda) of Seattle, Washington and Christopher Kevin Chaney (Lavon) of Birmingham, Alabama; two granddaughters, Blake Chaney and Sloan Chaney; one grandson, Seth Chaney; two sisters, Lura McKinney of Savannah, Georgia and Inez Dunlap of Jackson.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be 10 a.m. until service time Monday, November 30, 2009 at the church
