Urcle Wood Lomenick, 97, died Monday, June 4, 2018 at the Franks Greenhouse at Traceway Manor in Tupelo. She was born March 29, 1921 In Iuka to Bertha Long and Charles Franklin Wood. She was a graduate of Iuka High School and attended Draughon’s Business School inMemphis before her marriage to Clarence Lomenick in 1942. She and her husband owned NESCO Electrical Distributors where she established the residential lighting showroom in 1968 until her retirement in 1985. A member of First United Methodist Church for 74 years, she was a member of the Belle Bennett Sunday School Class, Road Runners and served on the Altar Guild and the Administrative Council. One of her greatest joys was volunteering at the Helping Hands Clothes Closet alongside a wonderful and faithful group of ladies. In earlier years, she was a member of the Thursday Multi Cultural club, created a business from her ceramics hobby and worked part time at Pryor’s Department Store. She had the great fortune throughout her life to travel the world extensively.
Services honoring her life will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 7, 2018 at First United Methodist Church in Tupelo with Rev. Andy Ray and Rev. Fred Britton officiating. A private family burial will follow in Lee Memorial Park. W.E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.
She is survived by a son, Eddie Lomenick and his wife, Janice; granddaughters Suzye Sheffield and Merrie Hughes and her husband, Andy; great-grandchildren Jake Hughes, Tyler Sheffield and Mattie Hughes; and a nephew, Jimmy Stephens.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a sister, Clara Wood Stephens, a brother, Charles Franklin Wood, Jr.; and an infant grandson, Clarence Edward Lomenick, III.
Visitation will be from 12 p.m. until service time in the Gathering Room of the church.
