Troy Dillard Wheeler, 92, passed away Monday, December 17, 2018, at North Mississippi Medical Center as the result of injuries sustained in a fall. He was born in Tupelo, May 20, 1926 to John Edward and Vera Bernice Dillard Wheeler. He was raised in Murfreesboro, Tennessee and was a graduate of Central High School and Middle Tennessee State College. Early in life, he proudly served his country in the United States Navy in both the Atlantic and Pacific Theaters during WWII. In 1952, Troy moved back to Tupelo where he worked at Reed's Shoe Store and then as a mechanical engineer for Rockwell, Day-Brite and Air Cap. Later in life, he worked several years as a real estate agent with Tommy Morgan Realty. Prior to his retirement in 2001, he worked with his son at his shoe store, The Second Wind. Troy was a former member of the Lions Club in Tupelo and also served as a Mason. He was a former member of First Christian Church where he served as Deacon and treasurer. He enjoyed spending time following his grandchildren's sporting endeavors.
Survivors include wife of 62 years, Sue Davy Wheeler of Tupelo; one son, David Edward Wheeler and his wife, Tammy Warren Wheeler of Tupelo; and two grandchildren, Ty and Grant Wheeler of Tupelo.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Edward and Vera Wheeler; one sister, Betty Wheeler Mead; one brother, John Edward Wheeler, Jr.; and one infant brother who died at birth.
Visitation will be Tuesday, December 18, 2018 from 4 until 7 p.m. at W.E. Pegues, Tupelo.
