Tommie Edith Kelly Webb

July 26, 1918 — July 26, 2018

Tommie Edith Kelly Webb, age 100, celebrated her first day in Heaven on July 26, 2018.  She was the only child born to Thomas (Tom) Alfred Kelly and Mary Balcie (Bat) Deason Kelly Snipes on December 3, 1917, in East Tupelo.  Tommie never met her father Tom, as he passed away from typhoid fever in August before she was born. When Tommie was six years old her mother married Jessie Lewis Snipes.

Tommie made her profession of faith in Christ during her childhood. She was a faithful and life-long member of Kelly’s Chapel Church, later to be renamed New Hope Baptist Church in the “Tater Hills” community. She volunteered as the Church secretary-treasurer for many years.

Tommie graduated from Mooreville High School in 1935 and attended Draughn’s Business College in Memphis.  She married Arthur Buster Webb on March 23, 1936, and they were married until his death in April 2000.

Tommie lived and worked in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, during World War II on the Manhattan Project without knowing at the time the significance of this work.  In 1959, she went to work in the shipping department at Blue Bell Manufacturing and later retired from there in June 1980.

Tommie resided in the “Tater Hills” community in Lee County until she made the decision to move to Avonlea Assisted Living in 2009.  Tommie enjoyed many happy days at Avonlea playing dominos, card games, bingo, reading practically every book in the Avonlea library, listening to musical guests and visiting with other residents.

In February 2018, Tommie was moved to Sanctuary Hospice House.  On the site where Sanctuary Hospice is located, Tommie spent many happy Sunday afternoons as a little girl and also as a teenager playing and visiting at her step-father’s family home place. Tommie’s family could not be more appreciative of the love and care shown by the Sanctuary Hospice staff during her last weeks on Earth.  Hannah, Nichole, Julia, Sheila, Keisha, April, Nancy, Mary, Brandy, Alissa, Shonya, Chaplin Dickie, Beverly and the kitchen staff were some of God’s angels on Earth that helped minister to Tommie during her stay there.

Tommie is survived by her two sons, Dan (Jackie) Webb of Tupelo and David (Daryl) Webb of Plantersville. She is survived by four grandchildren, Danny (Angie) Webb of Plantersville, Connie (Dereck) Young of Tupelo, Dave (Marie) Webb of North Little Rock, AR, and Morgan (Chad) Files of Plantersville. She was especially proud to be the great-grandmother to six boys, Austin (Abby) Young, Jordan (Danielle) Young, Davis (Kara) Webb, Logan Webb, Jud Files and Webb Files. Harper Reese Young, Austin Harrison Young and Georgia Tice Webb are the great-great- grandchildren who made the 5th generation of her family and added a twinkle to her eye and brought a smile to her face.

Visitation for family and friends will be held from 9:30 a.m. until service time Saturday.

A celebration of Tommie’s Heavenly Homecoming will be 11 a.m. Saturday, July 28, 2018, at W. E. Pegues Funeral Home Tupelo Chapel with Rev. Lowell Johnson officiating. Burial will be in the New Hope Baptist Church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons and great-grandsons.

The family requests memorial donations to be made to Sanctuary Hospice House, Patient Assistance Fund, 5159 Main Street, Tupelo, MS  38801.

Services will be live streamed and recorded for those who are unable to attend at www.peguesfuneralhome.com
