TOMMIE SUE FLEWELLEN

Tupelo - TOMMIE SUE KENDRICK FLEWELLEN, 86, died Friday, November 30, 2007, at her residence in Tupelo after an extended illness. A Sylacauga, Georgia native, she was born December 2, 1920 to the late Thomas James and Essie Smith Kendrick. She taught English Literature at The University of Alabama, Mississippi State University, and The University of Georgia for 35 years. While living in Athens, Goergia, she served as president of the University Woman's Club and was instrumental in organizing numerous social activities for the business college her husband headed at the University of Goergia. She was a dedicataed mother and served in many capacities such as Brownie leader, room mother, and supported her family to the fullest while continuing her career in higher education. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Tupelo.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Monday, December 3, 2007 in the Louise Bland Chapel at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Tim Prather officiating. W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include her husband of 66 years, Dr. William Crawford Flewellen, Jr. of Tupelo; two daughters, Susan Heard of Tupelo, and Mary Jane Fromm and husband, Randy of Dacula, Georgia; four grandchildren, Dr. Richard Franklin Heard, Jr., of Cookville, Tennessee, William Flewellen Heard of Tupelo, John Rhodes Heard and his wife, Tiffany, of Hernando, and Jeanette Jewsbury and her husband, Steve, of Easley, South Carolina; three great grandchildren, Corey Brice of Easley, South Carolina, and John Rhodes Heard, Jr. and Lily Kathleen Heard both of Hernando.

Honorary pallbearers will be Chris Garmon, Reed Nelson, Jay Witcher, Jason Shelton, Mike Comer, Chris McAlpin, Brian Fikes, and Lawrence Deas.

Visitation will be 1:30 p.m. Monday, December 3, 2007 at the Church..

Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church.
