THOMAS DOUG AKERS Saltillo - Thomas "Tom" Douglas "Doug" Akers, 60, passed away Saturday, June 6, 2015, at his home. He was born in Illinois on November 12, 1954 to Samuel Franklin Eugene Akers and Wanda Lee David Akers. He was a veteran of The United States Navy. He was a welder and builder by trade. He was an avid NASCAR fan, enjoyed country music, watching movies and cooking. Stateroom services will be 11:30 a.m. Monday, June 8, 2015 at W. E. Pegues, Tupelo. Burial will be at McNeil Cemetery. Survivors include two daughters, Chessa Rogers (Eric) and Judy Akers; the mother of his children, Mary Wright; two grandsons, Jacob and Jeremiah; two nieces, Brandie Bacon (William) and Sequin Clark (Christopher); sister-in-law, Tammy Akers; also great-niece and great-nephews, Caitlyn, Sebastian and Gage Bishop. He was preceded in death by his mom, Wanda Akers; father, Samuel Franklin Eugene Akers; bother, Samuel Akers. Visitation will be 10 - 11:30 a.m. Monday, June 8, 2015 at the funeral home.
