TUPELOThomas "Tom Elliot, 60, died Sunday, January 8, 2006. A Smithville native, he was born April 5, 1945 to the late Eugene and Alma Prestridge Elliot. He graduated from Smithville High School and received his Associates Degree from Itawamba Junior College and his Bachelors in Science Degree from Mississippi State University. He also received a Masters in Education in Guidance and Counseling from MSU, and had done post graduate work at the University of Mississippi. He was a member of the Mississippi National Guard, Company K 185th Aviation. He served as a board member of the Prairie Girl Scout Council and was a member of the Retired Volunteer Police Force and the American Legion. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Shannon and attended The Orchard.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at The Orchard with Rev. Jonathan Childress and Rev. Mike officiating. Burial will be in the Macedonia Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife of 28 years, Marie Harmon Elliot; one son, Chris Elliot of Tupelo; one daughter, Megan Cox of Saltillo; three grandchildren, Kyle, Cheyenne, and Hunter; two very special friends, Johnny Nash of Smithville, and Joe Overstreet of Holly Springs.

Visitation will be 5 until 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
