Tupelo - James Talmadge Tick Hester, 76, died Monday, June 6, 2011, at The North Mississippi Medical Center, after an extended illness. A Furrs Community native, he was born June 13, 1934 to Elvie Starks and Vivian Rennie Holcomb Hester. He married Bonna Jean Estes Hester, who preceded him in death on May 7, 2006. He worked 20 years for Pepsi Cola Bottling Company and then worked 20 years for Longs Uniform Rental Service. His passion was playing the guitar and song writing. Earlier in his life he played in several bands, most notably The High Five" and Gene Simmons & the Dixie Playboys. Hunting and fishing were some of his favorite past-times. He was a member of Furrs Baptist Church.
Services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 8, 2011, at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Rev. Steve Cohen officiating. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Park.
Survivors include his son, James Michael Hester of the Furrs Community; one grandson, Michael David Hester of Black Zion Community; his mother, Vivian Holcomb Hester of Tupelo; one sister Vonda Maynard (Billy) of Furrs Community.
He was preceded in death by his wife; his father; one brother, Thomas Allen Hester.
Visitation will be 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, June 7, 2011, at the funeral home.
