Sue Freeman

Tupelo- On April 30, 2023, the beautiful Mom, Mary “Sue” Houston Freeman passed from the loving arms of her daughters into the loving arms of her Lord, husband, and sons who were waiting for her in Heaven after an extended illness at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo, Mississippi.

Sue lovingly and patiently raised her five children in Tupelo, where she was a life-long resident. She became a member of Parkway Baptist Church in the late 1950’s with her children, husband, Robert Eugene “Gene” Freeman. She attended Itawamba Community College where she studied education and worked with differently abled children, who became her life-long passion, at Bissel School and volunteered at Vocational Rehabilitation in Tupelo. She became the secretary at Parkway Baptist Church and remained there for almost twenty years. She was a true Proverbs 31 mother, wife, and friend who loved, led, and accepted all she encountered. Sue adored her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren and loved them deeply as she instilled her faith into all of our lives. She impacted every life she came in contact with and enriched those lives with her presence, showing the grace, love, and mercy God instilled in her.

Sue is preceded in death by her parents, Robert Gambrell Houston and Inez Zanone Houston, brother, Bobby Houston, as well as her husband Robert Eugene Freeman. Her sons, Marcus Nelson “Mark” Freeman and William Glen “Pelar” Freeman, and daughter-in-law, Gay Tedford Freeman also waited on her in Heaven. What a joyful reunion she must have experienced!

Her legacy on earth includes her daughters, Lisa Freeman Guy (Carey) of Tupelo, Gena Freeman Yarbrough (Buck) of Saltillo, and Lynn Freeman Davis (Spencer) of Corinth. Her grandchildren include Wil Freeman (Wriley) of Saltillo, Michelle Vance Shepherd of Tupelo, Chelsea Yarbrough Wildmon (Wesley) of Saltillo, Lauren Guy Melton (Michael) of Annapolis, Maryland, Houston Yarbrough of Baldwyn, Sadie and Ella Richardson of Boliver, Tennessee, Michael Guy of Senatobia, Payton Davis Dallas (Caulen) of Pontotoc, Hayden Davis (Chelsie) of Columbus. Her great grandchildren include Abbi Glen Freeman, Hardin and Emerson Davis, Maggie and John Deacon Shepherd, Bennett, Landry, and Anna Wesley Wildmon, Jett Waverly, and Laney Collins Dallas, Dani and Delta Davis, and Morgan Melton who will arrive in May.

She leaves precious friends Jimmy Crockett, Martha Graham, Jeanine Gregory, and the members of the Nell Shirley Sunday School class at Parkway Baptist Church.

Visitation will be 11 a.m. until service time Saturday, May 6, 2023 at Pegues, Tupelo.

A celebration of her life will be 2 p.m. Saturday, May 6, 2023, at the Jefferson Street Chapel of Pegues with Rev. Jay Stanley officiating. Private graveside services will be at Lee Memorial Park.
