Sue Christian
Tupelo - Nellie Sue Whitehead Christian, 85, passed away Sunday, September 10, 2017 at North Mississippi Medical Center. She was born February 7, 1932 to Chester and Lila May Whitehead in Mississippi.
Sue attended Plantersville High School, where she graduated in 1950. On September 5, 1952, she married James William Christian in Long Beach, California while he was stationed there in the Navy. Sue worked in various positions at Plantersville and Mooreville Schools. She was a member of First Baptist in Plantersville where she was saved and baptized at a young age. Sue also spent time as a member of Auburn Baptist Church before returning to First Baptist Church in Plantersville. Sue enjoyed maintaining her yard and home and staying connected with family and friends.
Survivors include four daughters, Pam Christian of Tupelo, Jan Christian McCollum (Ricky) of Amory, Sharon Christian Miller (Paul) of Birmingham, Alabama and Allison Christian Mears (Tony) of Saltillo; six grandchildren, Emily Miller Putman (Nathan) of Bryan, Texas, Olivia Miller McGuire (Drew) of Charlotte, North Carolina, Hastings Christian Miller (Katherine) of Tempe, Arizona, Christian Andrew McCollum of Amory, Abigail Noel Mears of Saltillo and Tanner James Mears of Saltillo; three great-grandchildren, James Freeman Putman, Simon Miller McGuire and Eliza Mae Putman; two sisters, Claydee Kochiss of Trumbull, Connecticut and Mary Estes (Lawrence) of Tupelo; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 49 years before his passing in 2001, James William Christian; two sisters, Evelyn Hermansdorfer and Merlene Davis; and one brother, Gene Whitehead.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, September 14, 2017 at the Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Rev. Danny Balint officiating. Private graveside services will be held in Auburn Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Paul Miller, Ricky McCollum, Tony Mears, Christian McCollum, Tanner Mears and Nathan Putman.
Honorary pallbearers will be Hastings Miller and Drew McGuire.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time Thursday, September 14, 2017 at W. E. Pegues, Tupelo.
