Tupleo - James Steven Smokey Hollaway, 57, died Tuesday, December 16, 2008, at The North Mississippi Medical Center due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was born June 10, 1951, in Elkhart, Indiana to Douglas and Dorothy Hollaway. He was raised in Tupelo and was a 1970 graduate of Tupelo High School. Earlier in his life, he worked as an Emergency Medical Technician with the hospital in Aberdeen before working a number of years as a deputy with the Monroe County Sherriff's Department. Later he also worked for Whitetail Ridge Outdoors in the Birmingham Ridge Community. He was married to Peggy Hunter Hollaway who died in October 10, 2001. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, video games and computers. He loved NASCAR and was a big Dale Ernhart, Jr. fan. He was a member of The Church of Christ in Wren.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Rev. Dale Carr officiating. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Park.

Survivors include his mother, Dorothy Hollaway of Tupelo; one sister, Peggy Caldwell and husband, Carroll, of Shannon; one brother, Butch Hollaway of Tupelo; three uncles, Guy Hollaway, Tom Hollaway, and Carl Kingsley; two nieces and five nephews; special friends, Wayne and Angie Corbell and Earline Boatman.

He was preceded in death by his father, Doug Hollaway; his grandparents, Dewey and Mattie Hollaway, and Harrison and Beatrice Kingsley.

Pallbearers will be Alec Caldwell, Darrell Caldwell, Harrell Caldwell, Donnie Hawkins, Wane Hawkins, and Cody Corbell.

Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
