Saltillo - John Sterling Simmons, 94, died Friday, May 28, 2010, at The Sanctuary Hospice House after an extended illness. A Verona native, he was born August 15, 1915 to Joshua Milton and Bertha Estelle Hopkins Simmons. He worked 30 years as a supervisor for OshKosh B'Gosh Manufacturing. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an avid Atlanta Braves fan. He loved spending time with his family. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Saltillo.
Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at The Saltillo Chapel of W.E. Pegues with Rev. Tim Green and Rev. Charles Faust officiating. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Park.
Survivors include his wife, Bertie Simmons of Saltillo; three step-sons, Timothy Stogner (Brenda), Mark Stogner (Patty) and Eric Stogner (Tammi Marie), all of Saltillo; three sisters, Nadine Jones, Betty Westmoreland and Jo Ann Newman, all of Saltillo; one brother, Gill Simmons (Sara) of Carr Acres in Verona.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Milton Simmons and Bill simmons; and two sisters, Jeanette Arnold and Dorothy Smith.
Pallbearers will be Bill Jones, Andy Jones, Mark Simmons, Jon Newman, Eddie Simmons, Eric Stogner, Wes Westmoreland, and Fred Westmoreland.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Saturday at the Saltillo Chapel.
