Stanley Milward
Saltillo- Stanley Milward at the age of 85, died September 24, 2023, after a short illness at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. He was the first born on August 3, 1938, of identical twins in North Carolina to Stanley Milward and Ruth Gosser. He was a 1957 Steve D. Lee High School graduate in Columbus, Mississippi. Following he earned his bachelor’s in business at Mississippi State University. He then enlisted with the United States Army as a Military Police serving his country for three years. Following his service, he began his career in banking while earning his Bachelors in Banking at Louisiana State University. Although he had a successful career at Bank of Mississippi, Stanley made a career change and worked for many years at Ergon Asphalt Paving and retired from Research Solvents in 2016. He and his longtime best friend of 34 years, Gillie Anne Doty, attended First Baptist Church and he was a faithful member of Make a Difference Sunday School Class. He enjoyed riding his Harley motorcycles, driving his 1970 Mercury Cyclone, fishing, hunting, and golfing.
Stanley was survived by his son, Scott Milward and his wife, Trisha, of Tupelo; Scott’s mother, Laura Plyler; three grandchildren, Avery, Jackson, and Sadie Milward; niece, Susie Nelson; and his best friend, Gillie Anne Doty.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his identical twin, Will Milward; and sister, Betsy Smith.
Visitation will be 1:30 p.m. until service time Friday, September 29, 2023, at Pegues, Tupelo.
Funeral services will be 3:30 p.m. Friday, September 29, 2023, at the Jefferson Street Chapel of Pegues with Rev. Matt Powell officiating. Graveside services will follow at Tupelo Memorial Park with Military Honors.
Pallbearers will be Jackson Milward, Ruben Doty, Roman Doty, Phil Cochran, Dave Castles, and Charles Richey.
Honorary pallbearers will be the American Legion Post 49, his Biker Bunch, and his Make a Difference Sunday School Class.
