Spencer Burleson

Plesant Grove - Spencer Burleson, 77, died Tuesday, April 21, 2009, at his residence after an extended illness. He was born December 16, 1931, in Mooreville to Leroy and Annie Estelle Clark Burleson. He was a lifelong resident of Shannon and served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He worked for Pennsylvania Tire, for SunGas where he drove a transport truck, Borden's Ice Cream, and Empire Gas Company where he retired at age 62. Along with his brother, he also worked his family farm, raising cattle and catfish. He enjoyed fishing and cooked the best catfish ever. He loved to play Uno and really loved to win. He was a caring man with a beautiful sense of humor and an unconditional love for others. He was a member of Harrisburg Baptist Church.

Services will be 3:00 p.m. Thursday at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Rev. David Langerfeld and Rev. Danny Rushing officiating. Rev. Marion Holly will serve as honrary minister. Burial will be in Shannon Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Mary Catherine Clark Burleson of Plesant Grove Community; one daughter, Pamela Casto and husband, Rusty, of Plesant Grove; two sons, Kevin Burleson of Plesant Grove and Clay Burleson of Bossier City, Louisanna; three step-daughters, Cathy Davis and husband, David, of Plesant Grove, Dianna Vinson and husband, Larry, of Golden, and Tina Caden and husband, Larry, of Belleville, Ill.; one sister, Ella Williams of Moline, Ill.; 11 grandchildren, Melissa Duvaugh, Amanda Roth, James Vinson, Brandon Casto, Tracy Casto, Matt Davis, Amber Howard, April Reid, Brett Davis, Joshua Jolley, and Janice Caden; and four great-grandchildren, Dakota, Ella, Ayden, and Tyler.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Catherine, Irma, and Vera; and a brother, Roy Lee.

Pallbearers will be Matt Davis, Brett Davis, James Vinson, Joshua Jolley, Roy Burleson, and Billy Wayne Hall.

Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and 1 p.m. until service time Thursday at the funeral home.
