SYBIL ELGIN LEACH
Shannon " Sybil Elgin Fears Leach, 93, died Saturday, January 12, 2008, at her daughters residence near Shannon after an extended illness. An Amory native, she was born April 9, 1914 to the late Jim and Trudy Jane Moreland Fears. She worked over 20 years managing Grady's Hamburger Hut in Tupelo, and also worked as a seamstress out of her home for many years. She had lived in Amory and Louisville, Kentucky before moving to Tupelo in 1948. She was married to James Homer Leach, who preceded her in death December 18, 1966. She was a longtime member of Old Union Baptist Church. She was known for her love of her family and her many friends.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 15, 2008 at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Rev. Jason Howell officiating. Burial will be in Old Union Cemetery.
Survivors include two daughters, Karen Creel and her husband, Buddy, of Shannon, Brenda Underwood and her husband, Jimmy, of Shannon; two sons, Tommy Leach and his wife, Mary Jane, of Nettleton, and Ricky Leach and his wife, Debbie of Mantachie; 12 grandchildren, Charles Thomas Leach of Nettleton, Rudy Leach of Nettleton, Danny Leach and his wife, Renea of Nettleton, Chad Leach of Belden, Dana Langley and her husband, Joe, of Belden, Melissa Mitchell and her husband, Steven, of Marietta, Kim Underwood of Nashville, Jimmy Lee Underwood and his wife, Heather, of Shannon, Robert Cox and his wife, Melissa, of Saltillo, Jason Cox and his wife, Tanya, of Shannon, Johnathan Leach and his wife, Courtney, of Mooreville, and Carrie Leach of Mantachie; five step-grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. .
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and two sons, James Homer Leach, Jr., and Charles Warren Leach; a sister, Marie Little; and a step-grandson, Forrest Whit.
Pallbearers will be Lynn Howell, Steven Mitchell, Timothy Little, Harold Hathcock, Huey Little and Mark Roberts.
Visitation will be 5 to 9 p.m. Monday, January 14, 2008.
