Plantersville—Shirley Diane Young, age 74, passed away Monday, July 31, 2023 at her home in Plantersville. She was born July 3, 1949 in Marked Tree, Arkansas, the daughter of Charles and Katherine Rogers Wilson. Shirley’s family later moved to Mississippi and settled in Nettleton where she graduated from High School. In June 16, 1967, she married the love of her life, Larry Young and they enjoyed 56 years of marriage. She became an assistant teacher for Nettleton Primary School where she served for 23 years. Shirley was a faithful and dedicated member of Shiloh Community Church. She loved being outdoors in her garden and tending to her flowers. Shirley also enjoyed camping and trips to the beach. Her greatest joy came from spending time with the grandkids she adored.
Shirley leaves behind her husband, Larry Young; two daughters, Lisa Roper and husband, Rocky, and Tracie Simmons and husband, Eddie, all of Plantersville; three granddaughters, Haislynn, Oaklee, and Eden Simmons; and her sister, Kathy Hatley of Nettleton.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Clifton Wilson; and her father and mother-in-law, Dave and Marie Young.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 1, 2023 at the Jefferson Street Chapel of Pegues Funeral Directors with Bro. Danny Estes officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery. Visitation was held Monday from 6 until 8 p.m. and will continue one hour prior to service time.
Pallbearers will be Jeff McCollum, Richard McCollum, Leland Hatley, Matt Wilson, Delayne Hester, and Larry Green.
